OUR MISSION

Connecticut Adoption & Family Services, Inc (Connecticut Adoption & Family Services works to increase the number of successful adoptions within Southeastern Connecticut, especially adoptions of children who have special needs. The mission of Connecticut Adoption & Family Services is to create, strengthen and support families through the permanent placement of children in safe and loving homes.

    Connecticut Adoption & Family ServicesHISTORY

    The Connecticut Adoption & Family Services was established by a group of individuals concerned with the increasing number of children waiting for parents to adopt them and provide them with a happy and stable home environment. Incorporated in 1989, Connecticut Adoption & Family Servicesis dedicated to the identification of prospective adoptive parents through community awareness and networking with organizations and agencies addressing adoption issues.

    AGENCY SERVICES


    Connecticut Adoption & Family Services was fully licensed as an adoption agency in 1994. We have been matching families and children successfully now for many years. In the beginning, Connecticut Adoption & Family Services worked primarily with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to find families for foster children. Connecticut Adoption & Family Services continues to be the only agency in Eastern Connecticut dealing with minority and special needs adoptions. We have, however, expanded our services to provide assistance with all types of adoptions. Our services include the following: Private and DCF home studies



  • Connecticut Adoption & Family Services Advocacy Program to give extra support to families throughout the adoption process
  • Assessments of foster homes to determine suitability for adoption or long-term foster care
  • Birth parent counseling and services to legally free children for private adoption
  • Educational classes for families adopting special needs children
  • Recruitment of families to adopt specific children
  • Post-placement supervision for private and DCF clients
  • Adoptive parent and teen adoptee support groups that meets monthly, plus an on-line group
  • Assistance with creating Life Books
  • Finalization of private and DCF adoptions, including relative and step-children
  • Post-finalization counseling
  • Foreign and domestic adoptions

ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIPS


Connecticut Adoption & Family Services is a member of the North American Council on Adoptable Children and the Child Welfare League and the Connecticut Council on Adoption..


Connecticut Adoption & Family Services has been matching families and children successfully for a number of years. Connecticut Adoption & Family Services is the only agency in Eastern Connecticut with a mission to increase the number of families prepared to adopt minority and special needs children. Connecticut Adoption & Family Services provides information to newcomers to adoption, prepares families for adoption through a family study, and conducts group meetings to explore adoption issues.


Recently, Connecticut Adoption & Family Services has been arranging adoptions of children from China, Guatemala and several other countries. The agency will provide all the neccessary Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) forms and similar documents. Through our relationship with the China Center of Adoption Affaris in Beijing, Connecticut Adoption & Family Services is able to perform all the procedures to adopt healthy infants from China. Once your home study is received in China, it takes about ten (10) months until you are matched with a child.

  • Sep 16, 2009 - Families Needed:
    We are now looking for Connecticut parents to adopt infants of all races, including African-American, through private domestic adoption. The waiting period has become much shorter over this past year, so domestic adoption has become a more viable option for many. As always, we are also seeking families to adopt CT state foster children through our grant-funded program "Project CT's Child".
